AS and A level qualifications focus on traditional study skills. They are the usual route into a degree course at university. Relevant AS and A Levels include: textiles, chemistry, physics and maths.

  • Chemical & physical Sciences
  • Materials Sciences
  • Polymer Technology
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Process Engineering
  • Mechanical & Production

When recruiting for higher level technical and scientific roles, employers in the technical textiles sector look for graduates from science and technology disciplines, such as textile technology. But there are also many opportunities for graduates from more general disciplines, including chemistry, physics and engineering.

A postgraduate qualification in textiles technology is also highly regarded by employers as is hands-on work experience. Perhaps choose a degree that includes a work placement in it.
