Textile Technologist


What is a Textile Technologist?
 
Textile Technologists are concerned with the scientific makeup of fabrics. They may work in production, quality control, sourcing or research and development teams.
 
What does a Textile Technologist do?
 
·      sourcing fabrics that are fit for purpose
·      conducting quality control tests
·      experimenting with dyeing and production processes
·      managing a team of people
·      liaising with fabric suppliers


HOURS AND ENVIRONMENT:


Typical hours: around 40 a week.

Environment: office within a production facility, travel within the UK and overseas is common.



SKILLS AND INTERESTS:

 
·      able to lead a team and prioritise workloads
·      have excellent communication and organisation skills
·      be knowledgeable of production processes and textile fabrics
·      be creative and resourceful
·      interested in solving problems and experimenting with new ideas


ANNUAL INCOME :


Starting salary: around £21,000 a year, increasing to between £35,000 and £45,000 a year with experience.
